  1. Thanks for everything Paul!! Thanks for allow me to be part of the Influential Voices Effort!!
My objectives in 2011 in Quality? To learn a lot from my colleagues, to participate in World Conference, to organize at least two events in my country, to have the opportunity to be ASQ speaker in other LA countries, to help ASQ being more recognized in Latin America and mainly in Ecuador, and finally to make a lot of new friends and enjiy in the process!!

  2. My 2011 goals for Quality:
    1. Continued support of my employer’s Strategic Quality Leadership Team and Corporate Quality Council to develop global solutions to common problems for improved operational excellence, customer satisfaction and employee engagement.
    2. Continue the global deployment of “Process & Product Understanding” (PPU) for increased customer focus leading to improved process capability & stability.
    3. Continue the synergistic deployment of Quality, lean, DMAIC, DFSS, PPU and project management for effective problem solving and continuous improvement; establish an electronic knowledge management system to build global collaboration and best practice sharing.
    4. Continued leadership participation on the ASQ MN Section Executive Board to enhance member and stakeholder satisfaction in alignment with our Long Range and Strategic Planning process.
    5. Continued member leader participation on the ASQ Statistics Division Council to promote “Statistical Thinking Everywhere”. Deliver a workshop on “PPU/Statistical Engineering” at the 2011 WCQI/ICQI on behalf of the Statistics Division.
    6. Continue my involvement on the MN Council for Quality’s “Process Improvement Network” planning committee to schedule speakers on topics and case studies relevant to the Baldrige Criteria.
    7. Continue my role as a Baldrige Examiner and ISO Lead Auditor to help organizations improve their performance excellence.
    8. Continue building my network of Quality professionals and learners to raise the voice of Quality in manufacturing and non-traditional areas, focusing on customer desired outcomes and social responsibility.

I was blessed to be invited to attend the ASQ Health Care Division Leadership retreat three weeks ago at the urging of HCD Chair Dr, Joe Fortuna, and got to hear you address the ASQ new branding initiative. Very nice. My wife and I have been enthusiastic ASQ members for more than two decades (She is Corporate Director of Quality for ITSI Gilbane of Walnut Creek CA, and is a CQA and CMQ/OE). I have always paid my own dues (and paid for my CQE re-certs until I tired of that expense, LOL). I am recently again active in the Society (I’m a former Chair of Vegas Section 705) following the end of a three year employment layoff last March 2nd. I now maintain an active independent blog proffering on my views on the federal health information technology REC effort (Regional Extension Centers) of which I am now part (workflow specialist for HIT adoption). Link above (I guess; failing that just Google “REC blog” — I own those search results).

My goal for 2011 is to bring quality principles visibly and broadly into the national HIT “Meaningful Use” effort in order that it ends up being sustainably more than just a transient incentive money chase (which is what it mostly looks like at this point).

I invite comments at my blog (which I need to further update ASAP in the wake of my HCD retreat experience). And, I stand ready as always to support the ASQ mission that I have long been proud to be involved with.

  4. When I saw this post, I really started giving some thought to my goals for next year. As I mentioned in a response post on my blog (http://tinyurl.com/3xfgn33), I’m glad you chose “goals” and not “resolutions” as your context! :)

In my post, I mentioned a few things that I’ve had on my mind regarding my professional and personal goals for next year. I guess I just wanted to put it out there as a constant reminder to stay on track. But, something I didn’t mention was a personal mission to spread the word about social responsibility. I hope to do that through my work at Pro QC and my instruction at HCC. It’s something I’ve discovered many people don’t really understand. It’s something I’m passionate about and enjoy discussing.

One other thing I didn’t mention specifically in my post was the commitment to carry on the voice of quality through ASQ and other social networks. I’ve really enjoyed participating as an Influential Voice, especially the opportunity to connect with other people and share ideas regarding quality. And, I’ve had a similar experience with the ASQ Group on LinkedIn. My goal for 2011 and beyond is to keep up the momentum and explore other outlets as well. I don’t think my voice has reached as far as it can go quite yet!

Like some of the folks above, I too, looked at this question from various positions:

At work, I support global teams and interact with them across the globe. Continuously providing support for effective process improvement and simply helping to make a difference has been one of my key themes.

Professionally, I’m heavily involved as Chair of ASQ’s Quality Management Division. Collaborating with this diverse team of professionals has been an incredible experience. The QMD will strive to continue to build upon its products and services that provide member value.

Most key, though, is my family. Spending time with the kids as they are growing just reinforces how much I need to learn. Our son, Adam, has Autism. I’ve been been selected to speak at WCQI and other venues about our family experiences in applying quality and lean concepts at home to improve his and our quality of life.

Henry Ford said, “If you think you can and you think you can’t, you are absolutely right”. That applies to the Quality of life that you have as well.

    Happy Holidays.
