ASQ Public Policy Advisory Council Takes Quality to Washington

A Message from Kay Kendall, Chair of the Council

Thanks to ideas that are bubbling up from our divisions and members, I’m happy to report that ASQ is laying the groundwork for some exciting public policy initiatives in the areas of healthcare, the public sector, and education. With the change of administrations in Washington, this is an opportune moment for ASQ to bring the quality message to Washington and establish relationships with key policy makers.

ASQ’s Public Policy Advisory Council (“the Council”) identifies national issues for potential ASQ involvement. We examine potential issues with input from various subject matter experts both inside and outside of ASQ. Then we make recommendations to ASQ’s Office of the President for taking specific action on any issues. The council also coordinates these activities with ASQ’s Washington consultants—Sellery Associates, Inc.

All public policy initiatives and any activities that would involve ASQ taking a public position on an issue, attempting to influence legislation or public policy, or official ASQ contact in Washington, D.C., must be coordinated through the council. I encourage your continued active involvement. If your member unit is involved in or contemplating any of these activities, please make sure to bring them to the council at the earliest stages of development. You can do so by contacting the chair of the DAC (Steve Wilson) and chair of SAC (David Levy), both of whom are members of the council.

It’s important that we all do this so ASQ can speak authoritatively with one clear voice on any matter having a public policy component.
