Living Responsibly--A Quality Role Model

Abstract: The life of Spencer Hutchens Jr. (1922-2010) and the concepts that shaped his career decisions center on a theme for which ASQ has recently honored him–social responsibility. His life provided a consummate definition of “social responsibility” through his personal philosophy as well as the authentic way in which he practiced his philosophy as observed in key incidents. This article defines and celebrates Spencer Hutchens’ contribution to the operational definition of a theory for social responsibility, demonstrating how he had consciously put his theory into practice.
